It’s still pushing 100º in many parts of the country, so we can’t help but dream of cooler temps, changing leaves, and the smell of pumpkin spice! If you’ve been to your local Michaels lately, then you’ve seen the first signs of fall filling our aisles with fresh blooms and rustic décor.
We asked our Michaels Makers to show us their fall haul as they prepare to transition their home décor for the season. Grab your cozy sweater and get inspired.

In case you haven’t noticed, our stores are overflowing with pumpkins and that’s why we challenged our Michaels Makers to see what they could do with them!
We love craft pumpkins for all of their many uses and the fact that they can be used year after year. Not only does Michaels have orange, chalkboard, black and cream pumpkins, this year we’ve added glow-in-the-dark, concrete and diorama pumpkins! We will also be carrying a teal pumpkin to represent the Teal Pumpkin Project.
Just take a look at all of the fun craft pumpkin ideas that our Makers created!

Turkey day is quickly approaching and for the first time ever I will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner in my home. Like many of you, I am busy planning our menu but I’m also looking for beautiful ways to decorate my table for my guests.
These tablescape projects are really very simple to do, which means that I don’t have to stress about getting complex projects done before the big day. I think cooking a turkey is stressful enough!
When creating a tablescape, I like to start with a center focal point. Here they’ve used a small floral centerpiece with really gorgeous autumnal colors. It’s a good idea to keep sight lines in mind when adding centerpieces to your table. You don’t want them interrupting your guests’ conversation.
Adding candles to your table is a great way to set the mood. These glass candlesticks are simply spray painted with a brushed metallic silver for a muted, but elegant look.
Instead of using a table runner, swag a garland down the middle of your table. This beautiful dried fall garland is store bought! We only added the silver satin ribbon bows to match the rest of the décor.
Adding some simple metallic fall leaves to the table is a great way to fill open gaps and add a bit of glam.
Add an elegant touch to your wine glasses by painting the bottoms! These copper based glasses will be perfect for Thanksgiving and many more gatherings in the future.
Our Thanksgiving get-togethers usually involve multiple desserts. I love the idea of sending a treat home with your guests in a tiny personalized box. These cake balls are the perfect fit.
Just by adding some leather, metallic cording and a piece of floral, this treat box is completely transformed into the sweetest place setting.
All of these Thanksgiving decorations set a beautiful scene, but it’s the people around the table that really help make the memories. I hope you get to take some time this holiday and reflect on what you are thankful for with the ones you love.
It’s officially October and temps are on the downswing, so we feel like there is no reason to keep trying to hide our pumpkin obsession. Fall pumpkins, Halloween pumpkins, cute pumpkins, scary pumpkins… we love them all! In fact, we love pumpkin crafts SO much that we are hosting a Trick Your Pumpkin Sweepstakes!
We’re excited to see how you tricked out your pumpkin! Head on over to the sweeps page and upload a photo of your decorated pumpkin. You could win a $250 Michaels git card AND $500 in craft supplies from Plaid® & DecoArt®.
In honor of this glorious sweepstakes, I want to inspire you with some of my favorite pumpkins from our Michaels Makers Challenge last month. As you can see, when it comes to craft pumpkins, the possibilities are endless!
Lucy at Craftberry Bush used acrylic paint markers to make her pumpkins match her blue painted porcelain collection. I think they turned out absolutely beautiful!
The ladies over at The DIY Playbook aren’t playing around when they say that they love donuts. This is a pumpkin after my own heart!
Ashley at Lil Blue Boo hand-embroidered her designs on these white craft pumpkins. Who would have thought that was even possible? Check out her tutorial to see how easy it is to do!
I could have guessed that these pumpkins belonged to Rachel at Lines Across! They are right in line with her wildly colorful design aesthetic. Her watercolor technique is whimsically gorgeous and right on trend.
I just love how sweet these hand painted pumpkins from Simple as That turned out. They sure do make lovely home décor. Rebecca even has a free Give Thanks printable available for download on her blog.
These marquee light pumpkins from The Crafting Chicks are genius! What a great way to welcome trick or treaters on your front porch.

It’s a few days into September, and I’m already dreaming of cozy sweaters, chunky scarves and cooler temps. It may still be in the 90s where I live, but I’m ready to dive head first into a cup of pumpkin spice!
There’s something about the pumpkin spice smell that conjures up feelings of warmth and gets me excited for the autumnal season. When the scent is wafting through my house, I can’t help but do a happy dance. That’s why I’m so excited that Michaels has a Pumpkin Spice line in their Ashland® Autumn Gatherings Fragrance Collection.
From the classic scented potpourri, jar candles and drawer sachets to a room spray or diffuser… there are so many ways to get the pumpkin spice love drifting through your home. My personal favorite, however, are the wax melts and this adorable pumpkin wax melt warmer.
How cute is that little pumpkin? It really enhances my fall décor while smelling delicious at the same time! Here’s a tip: Mix up your wax melts to create custom scents. I personally love to blend the pumpkin spice melts with the vanilla melts… it smells like pumpkin pie heaven! You can find this fall fragrance collection at your local Michaels store.
Don’t you just love the smell of autumn? Which flavor (or scent) is your favorite?
