It’s Love Your Pet week here at Michaels, so we figured we’d introduce you to a few of the furry friends our associates love so much!
First up, Duke. He’s 14 year old dog’s dog. A rough and tumble hound who was rescued on the side of the highway along with two other small labs in Knoxville, TN by a co-worker of our Digital Marketing VP, Anthony. Even though Duke had a rough beginning, and still has a few picky habits from his earlier years, Anthony and his family welcomed Duke into their loving home. Today, Duke has a soft spot. He’s in love with a little girl named Parker, who dresses him up, hugs him and lets him be the protector he was born to be. Anthony says they even fall asleep together on the floor at naptime. Awww!!!!
Next, Biggie Smalls, the Notorious D.O.G. Only our resident hipster, Jillian, would come up with a crazy name for her furry friend. But, it fits him to a tee. This little guy thinks he’s a lot bigger than he really is, and isn’t afraid to act like it. She fell in love with him on Craigslist (but don’t tell him that). His favorite treats are anything that she’s eating, except veggies – he hates veggies. And his least favorite activity is a B-A-T-H (note, she’s taking to spelling it even in her description of him). Apparently, he hides under the bed when he hears water running. He’s a regular star on Jillian’s Instagram – check out a few of our favorite snapshots above!
Third, we have Cinnamon. He’s a Chinchilla. Yes, you read that right, a Chinchilla. One more time, a Chinchilla. (I just love writing the word, Chinchilla). Our Content Coordinator, Nicky fell in love with him on petfinder.com. And he’s an ornery boy! She taught him “up” in a matter of days, and tells us he’s an elite wall surfer – running at walls, doors and table legs as fast as he can, then kicking off them with his back legs to bounce himself into a different direction. He’s obsessed with holiday décor, and sticking his face in scented candles (he fits right in around here!), and loves rose hips for a snack. He definitely keeps Nicky on her toes!
Meet Abby. She’s the only cat on our post, and the furry friend of Meredith, our very own Yarn Guru. Meredith found Abby at a local adoption agency. At first, she was a timid little thing. Then, when she finally ventured out of her hiding place, she followed Meredith around for the rest of the day. Sounds like love at first sight, if you ask me. Meredith says that Abby always has a confused look on her face, like she’s saying “Whaat?” all the time, but don’t let her fool you. She’s surprisingly crafty. She loves her fish shaped treats and sleeping….obviously (just take a look at the photo!). Meredith told us her nickname for Abby is “Fuzzy Pants”, of course, with all that gorgeous fur, how could anyone not resist calling her “Fuzzy”!
Introducing Chopsley and Touché, the bulldog brothers of our copywriter & Guy D.I.Y. author, Stephen. Chopsley J. Chomperton is an Old English Bulldog who picked Stephen when he went in search of a furry friend. He’s a silly boy, who goes nuts over a Frisbee. Apparently, he’s crazed before you can even get the word out! He’s named after the Chief Assistant of Morgus the Magnificent (of New Orleans TV fame). Chopsley is nicknamed “Choppers” because of his massive jaw. Chopsley’s brother is Monsieur Touché le Ronfleur “Sir Snort”, a French Bulldog who lives up to his snooty name. This dog is a rude little Frenchman. Stephen tried taking him to a trainer, but she said there was nothing that could be done! When they met, Touché was a perfect little clown. Frenchies are small, but he’s even smaller than your average Frenchie. Stephen calls him “fun sized.” Needless to say, both of these sweeties love Peanut Butter and their human, Stephen!
Then, there are my two guys. Jake is an 11 year old Border Collie/Foxhound Mix and Perseus is a 3 year old Pit Bull/Basset Hound mix. I fell for Jake at the city pound. Don’t know why, but this boy and I clicked like two peas in a pod. That was 10 years ago. Jake is your typical grumpy old man. He doesn’t like noises, he doesn’t like water, he doesn’t like most things. And he’s very vocal – he will growl and tell you exactly what’s on his mind. Being part Border makes him super smart and he figures things out, like how to open doors and unplug the vacuum. Perseus is a whole other hound. When we first met this boy, he was a tiny thing with little tiny legs and huge, floppy ears. Well, when you get the short end of life, you get a big strong name! I always tell people “He’s your typical Pitty, on 4 inch legs”. He’s super energetic, loves playing with his big brother and meeting strangers. Like every stranger he’s ever come across. Oh – and he’s VERY camera shy (Yeah, that’s him hiding under the bed when he saw the camera come out).
Finally, meet Chelsey. She’s a sweet Miniature Poodle, and the favorite girl of her human, Sherry. Chelsey loves her treats. And, Sherry tells us, will even moonwalk to get your attention (hopefully, a treat as well!!). Chelsey is highly curious, so she enjoys watching the neighborhood through the window. People walking by with their dogs, cats getting up on the front porch, squirrels and birds eating food in the yard – it’s all very exciting and deserves some full-body barking!
Pet love is the best love. Have you hugged your fur-ever friend today?
