GUY DIY: Custom Painted Axe Handles

3 Y ears ago by

I’m always on the lookout for creative project ideas, so when I came across these colorful tools I knew I had to give this project a try. Below is my step-by-step take on creating high-end, custom painted axe handles.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

GUY DIY: Custom Painted Axe Handles

Before you begin your project, sand any laminate or logos off your axe handle and wipe it clean. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to choose your paint colors and plan your design.

Step 1. Tape It Off

Cover the head of your axe with a plastic bag and blue tape, and tape off the areas of your handle you’d like to protect … only leaving the areas you intend to paint exposed.

Step 2. Add Color

Paint the masked off area in the color of your choosing, and be sure to let it dry completely before you move on to the next.

Step 3. Add More Color

Mask off the next area of your handle that you intend to paint. Let it dry before you proceed.

Step 4. Repeat Until Done

Once your axe is completely dry, you may want to add a layer of Polyurethane coating to protect your design. Or you may want to leave it as is and let the character continue to develop on it’s own.
